Travellers from around the world come to the Great Barrier Reef, an Australian World Heritage Area, to explore its extraordinary diversity of animal and plant life. Coral reefs face a growing number of threats, from climate change and storm damage, to sediment and nutrient run-off. Join them on an Earthwatch expedition in the water around Magnetic Island to help scientists develop best-practice methods for coral recovery. On this expedition, participants can get involved through scuba or snorkel activities. You will assist researchers in making baseline measurements of environmental conditions, actively removing algae, deploying coral recruitment (settlement) tiles and assessing fish and invertebrate diversity and abundance. By joining this expedition, you’ll be at the forefront of active reef restoration science. You will assist researchers in experiments that aim to develop best practice methods for removing this macroalgae and allowing coral to regrow. You will be directly involved in filling in the gaps that will enable reef managers to make evidence-based decisions about active interventions that support the recovery of the Great Barrier Reef, and reefs all over the world. English powerhouse rockers Pink Floyd, sparkling with fresh energy after enduring significant upheaval in the early 1980s, came to our shores in support of their smash hit A Momentary Lapse of Reason album. Stunning in its audio and visual impact, this tour set a benchmark still considered the gold standard for touring acts the world over. This tour was filmed and recorded for subsequent release as a live album, appropriately titled “The Delicate Sound of Thunder”. Now, 35 years later, Australia’s own Echoes of Pink Floyd bring you their painstakingly crafted homage to this amazing concert experience, Signs of Life. Signs of Life will take the listener on a voyage bringing back those heady years of 1988, with the best songs from the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour lovingly reproduced for Pink Floyd fans of all ages and backgrounds. Audiences will be able to thrill to tracks that have not been performed live in this country for decades, as well as enjoy all the smash hits and stadium anthems they know and love....

The Paluma Ultra is a 52km ultramarathon trail run race, that will challenge your physical and mental abilities as well as awaken your sense of adventure and indulge your inner child as you traverse a fun, technical and diverse course. Having spent countless amount of hours and days in the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics region of Paluma Range National Park it has instilled an immense appreciation for the beauty of this place. One of our other events, The Paluma Village Trail Run has been around for over 10 years and we thought it is time to share even more parts of this special place with the avid trail runners. The 50km Ultra Trail Run course takes you through pristine wet tropics rainforest, past waterfalls and through refreshing creek crossings. It then descents into dry eucalypt forest and cattle country and wide open spaces before climbing back into the dense rainforest parts of Paluma. This time of the year, Paluma Range is a great escape from the heat in Townsville. Situated at almost 1000m, the Paluma Range is cooler than the coastal region and it makes for great trail running conditions in October....
