To make the most of the events calendar this winter, here’s how to find your TICKET to shine!

Get Active

Want to stay fit and healthy, but not into visiting the neighbourhood gym or lugging weights around? Then head outdoors and get fit with views that are among some of Australia's best! Test your personal best with a half marathon holiday along the iconic Strand at the annual Townsville Running Festival (1 August), or switch gears at the Townsville Triathlon and Multisport Festival (13-15 August).

On wheels more your style? Then the Shimano MTB Grand Prix Race (19 June) and the Fox Superflow (26-27 June) might be more your pace. Cap off an active event with a more relaxed pace with stand-up paddle boards and a trip to the island – the ultimate way to warm down!

Culture in abundance

Arts, dance, performances, and comedy acts are what is in stall for the months of July and August with North Australia Festival of Arts, and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. With stadium-style events featuring ARIA chart star Tones and I, and later in the year – old school rock greats, KISS; to intimate and up-close encounters with classical creatives and comedy class acts – including Reuben Kaye!

And if a quick road trip is on the cards, then make tracks to the upcoming Sweet Days Hot Nights event in the Burdekin which is really set to light things up. Or in the other direction is our own Little Italy with the Australian Italian Festival in Ingham.

With a taste of the arts and culture, make your next move to one of our hero attractions including the newly reopened Queensland Museum Tropics, and a local favourite – Billabong Sanctuary. Or wind down with a sunset sail around Magnetic Island – the epitome of luxury.

From the sidelines

Our region is made for taking in the view, and what better way to see our piece of paradise, than from the sidelines at some of Australia’s best events! Push the action to full throttle with the annual Supercars 3-day spectacle. Keep the fast pace going, but on a different wave with the pinnacle in yachting at the Magnetic Island Race Week. Swap your flip flops for your Cowboys boots and cheer ringside at the Charters Towers Rodeo. Not to forget our very own Cowboys – the NRL North Queensland Cowboys who take the field regularly at our new stadium home; where we welcome friends from all codes, including next week’s Super Rugby Trans-Tasman Queensland Reds vs Chiefs.

Use some of your pent-up adrenaline from the on-field/on-water action, by getting out to explore the endless trails, sandy beaches, fresh waterfalls and tall peaks! With self-guided, and guided tours on offer – you’ll be sure to find what makes you shine!
