SS Adelaide shipwreck

S.S City of Adelaide Shipwreck

Get your cameras at the ready for what has previously been crowned the most popular image on Tourism Australia’s Instagram page! Magnetic Island’s most insta-famous maiden, the S.S City of Adelaide, started her life in 1863 in Glasgow, Scotland before resting her bones 15,000 kilometres away in Cockle Bay only 300m offshore. Hidden behind a sea of mangroves, the S.S. Adelaide is an off the beaten track experience that you can wade out to at low tide.

Geoffrey Bay rock wallabies

Geoffrey Bay

This little bay boasts all the favourite Magnetic Island bucket list items, from meeting some cuddly locals to exploring the depths of WWII history. Head out from the beach and discover one of the island’s two snorkel trails. Explore a variety of coral and sea life along the way to the Moltke shipwreck and further on to the wreckage of a WWII bomber plane. Dry off and walk out to the original entry point to Magnetic Island where you will be greeted by some island locals of a furry nature. The local rock wallabies love to greet tourists and don’t mind the odd selfie!
