In 2021 The North Australian Festival of Arts presents Ephemera, their biennial seaside sculptural festival celebrating its 20th year of sun, sand, and art.

This event was established by Townsville City Council in 2001, providing regional artists an opportunity to showcase their talent within a national arena. Ephemera presents ephemeral works for the short-lived exhibition of nine days and nights, encouraging artists to use inexpensive materials. This year Ephemera will be adding a new acquisitive prize category due to funding by the Queensland Government. The acquisitive prize builds on their already beloved exhibition, with the winning sculpture to be included as part of their existing permanent sculpture display along The Strand.

Staged over nine fabulous days and nights, Ephemera transforms The Strand into a two kilometre outdoor seaside sculptural exhibition for all to enjoy. Ephemera will showcase 26 sculptures by local and nationally-renowned artists, including 20 competitive sculptures, four sculptures by invited artists and two schools projects. The 20 competitive artworks will be competing for the major $10,000 Award for Artistic Excellence.
