Resolution: New Indigenous Photomedia

This exhibition brings together works from some of Australia’s leading and emerging Indigenous artists made over the last five years. Featuring still photographs made using modern and historical processes, video and multimedia installation, the exhibition provides an experience of contemporary photomedia and indigeneity that is physical, embodied and thought-provoking.

TheatreiNQ's Frankenstein

Celebrating 200 years since Mary Shelley first penned her gothic masterpiece, TheatreiNQ presents an original interpretation of this much-loved classic. With the support of the Griffin Group, Frankenstein will be presented in the historic Old Townsville West State School building on Ingham Road. This promenade, site-specific production will take audiences on a nightmarish journey through the halls and rooms of this beautiful heritage listed building. Due to the heritage nature of the building, and the use of stairs during the performance, please contact them if you have any mobility issues or concerns. For mature audiences aged 15 years and older.

Townsville MTB Festival

Mountain Bike Australia are pleased to announce the inaugural Townsville MTB Festival presented by Mike Carney Toyota. This 2017 event will incorporate MTBA Cross-Country Marathon National Championships, Discover Townsville Adventure Ride and a Family Festival Day at Cape Pallarenda on the Labour Day Public Holiday. The Discover Townsville Adventure Ride will be a family-friendly event, consisting of two to three hours of riding various trails and locations throughout greater Townsville each day. This event will kick off as part of the Festival of MTB at Cape Pallarenda on Monday 1st, May when families will have the opportunity to ride the XCM National Championship course from the day prior. The XCM National Championships will as always be open to all MTBA members with categories ranging from Junior through to Masters. Come along and join in the festivities of the Festival of MTB at Cape Pallarenda from 10am - 4pm. The day will include a Corporate Challenge, Kids Skills Course, Live Music, Food Trucks, Jumping Castle and a Family Ride. This truly unique event is sure to offer something for all mountain bike enthusiasts.

Shaun Tan’s The Lost Thing: From book to film

Set in a city overrun by bureaucracy, Shaun Tan’s picture book The Lost Thing tells the story of a boy who befriends a strange creature that doesn’t appear to fit in any of the available pigeon holes. Melbourne-based production company Passion Pictures Australia invited Shaun to direct an animated version of The Lost Thing. Several years later, the Oscar®-winning short film emerged. This exhibition features Shaun’s exquisite original drawings and working sketches alongside exclusive footage of the animators and sound artists demonstrating how the drawings were brought to life on screen with movement, sound effects, music and narration.

Townsville MS Swimathon

The Kokoda Memorial Pool will host the last MS Swimathon event of the season to raise vital funds to help people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). It doesn't matter if you can do 100 fast laps or doggy paddle one, everyone can join in, have fun and support people living with MS - an incurable disease which affects a person's central nervous system. Designed as a relay event, teams must have one swimmer in the water at all times throughout the entire 12 hour event period. Participants can raise donations by asking for a one off donation from friends and family or being sponsored based on the number of laps they can do. Registrations open 29 February, so get involved to help support those individuals living with MS and their families.

It’s going to take smarts and sneakiness to stop them and not get squished in the process. Think you can outwit a witch and outrun a mouse? Then grab a seat in the front row for The Witches, bursting onto the stage as a mind-boggling and madcap one-man show. Brave boys and girls, rat-racers and retirees are in for a wicked and wonderful time. Lucas Jervies directs this bubbling concoction, based on David Wood’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, with one actor running amok in a virtuosic physical performance. Burdekin Growers Race Day has cemented its place in the 2017 North Queensland Events Calendar, celebrating their 18th year for the event this year. The day has been hailed as 'the best tropical race day in North Queensland' and boasts one of the states richest fashions on the field prize packages. Their local produce growers display their fruit and vegetables and at the end of the day patrons are invited to take a box of produce home with them. They anticipate another excellent crowd of in excess of 3,000 patrons to be in attendance at the track once again this year.

Oliver [Live]

Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family. With spirited, timeless songs like “As Long as He Needs Me,” “Food, Glorious Food,” and “Where is Love,” Oliver is a musical classic.
