Remember Me: The lost diggers of Vignacourt

During the First World War, the small French town of Vignacourt was always behind the allied front lines. It was used as a staging point, casualty clearing station and recreation area for the troops moving to and from the battlefields on the Somme. For them, it became a home away from home. In February 2011, over 3,000 glass-plate photographic negatives were discovered in the attic of a farmhouse in Vignacourt. They are informal photographs, taken by French couple Louis and Antoinette Thuillier, of allied soldiers, many of them Australian, during their time in Vignacourt. An Australian War Memorial Travelling Exhibition.

Constellations

So if everything we’ve ever done, and never done, has happened in alternate universes, that means there are universes in which we’ve never met. Universes where I married Prince Harry and you went to jail for tax fraud. How romantic, darling. Lovers often say fate brought them together, and fate doesn’t get much credit after that. But in Constellations, by hot young British playwright Nick Payne, every moment Roland and Marianne share is at the mercy of the infinite and unknowable universe. Lucas Stibbard (Boy Girl Wall) and Jessica Tovey (Wonderland, Home and Away) play a lovestruck beekeeper and a quantum physicist. The odds of them getting together are astronomical. But when their worlds do collide, all the possibilities of their life together – good, bad and ugly – flicker across the stage in a series of snapshots, from first date to farewell.
